Winner of the 2017 Family Fringe / Youth Poster Art Competition Revealed

And the winner of the 2017 Family Fringe / Youth Poster Art Competition is: Kayla Swift.

As the San Diego International Fringe Festival focuses on providing a platform for artists to present new cutting edge works (primarily in theatres) throughout San Diego & Tijuana; it also has been working on providing more and more free programming and engaging family audiences. In turn, Producer Christa Kay thought it would be a great idea to take the initiative to provide opportunities for young artists. In fact, after attending the World Fringe Congress in Montreal, and seeing what other festivals (such as Edingburgh & Brighton) have done to showcase young artists, she opted to jump in and create a new opportunity for young ‘San Diego’ visual artists. Hence; the 1st Annual “Youth Poster Art Contest.”

So, here it is…., drum-roll…., the WINNER Kayla Swift (14 y/o student from Scripps Ranch High School) will be seeing her art plastered around the festivities of Family Fringe taking place at the City Heights Performance Annex (in San Diego) on June 25th, 2017. She will also be receiving a $100 scholarship with her award.

CONGRATULATIONS Kayla!

New Zealand Fringe Announces Award Partnership with San Diego International Fringe

NZ Fringe Wellington is thrilled to announce a new award partnership with San Diego International Fringe that will see local lads Allergic to Love head over to perform in July this year.

A late addition to the NZ Fringe awards this year is a new partnership that will see an exchange of art between San Diego and Wellington, the San Diego International Fringe Festival TOUR READY AWARD will see the Californian festival host a New Zealand show that premiered in NZ Fringe in July, with NZ reciprocating the award here in the 2018 NZ Fringe Wellington.

The award winning show for this inaugural award is Allergic to Love, written and performed by Tom Knowles., Sam Logan, Josh Logan and Jed Parsons.

Tom said of receiving the award “Talk about living on a prayer! We are absolutely thrilled and super excited to be given the chance to rock the souls, to melt the faces and to break the hearts of America! This beast has well and truly been let out of the cage and like a bat outta hell, we are ready to rock. We had such great support and an amazing response for the NZ Fringe Festival that we all can’t wait to continue the winning streak and represent all the people that have got us this far. This is a show by the people, for the people- He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata- we are forever thankful for everyone’s help and support thus far and I am so glad that it’s a joint consensus; the show must go on!

Although written over the last 10 years, mostly in our small town of Blenheim, I have a great sense of this show almost returning home to where this genre of music was most successful and birthed some of our absolute idols. We are electrified for this once in a life time opportunity from San Diego International Fringe Festival and in the late words of my main man Freddy, We WILL Rock you!”

Tom and the band will be furiously fundraising over the coming months to get to San Diego and NZ Fringe can’t wait to see them take flight!

Executive Director, Kevin Charles Patterson, of San Diego International Fringe Festival says, “I love the idea of having more and more of these cultural exchanges that create such great opportunities for artists.”

MAR 21, 2017 – Announcing the 5th Annual San Diego International Fringe Festival

Announcing the 5th Annual San Diego International Fringe Festival Eleven Days of Bold, Beautiful, and Bizarre Shows
June 22 – July 2, 2017

For the 5th year in a row, the San Diego International Fringe Festival (SDIFF) is thrilled to announce our festival dates for 2017: June 22-July 2, 2017.

“We’re excited to be show casing international, national, and local uncensored and innovative live performing artists in San Diego for the 5th year in a row”, said Kevin Patterson, Executive Producer. “This year we are expanding our festival to include over 90 shows, and adding venues in beautiful Balboa Park, which is well known for its artistic atmosphere”.

The 2017 San Diego International Fringe Festival will present over 500 performances from over 90 different local, national, and international artists. The Festival aims to fully support artists by giving 100% of ticket proceeds to the performing artists. Because 100% of ticket sales go back to the artists, attendees must buy a $5 Fringe Tag, good for all 11 days, as general festival admission. This helps SD Fringe raise funds to continue to provide an affordable platform for artists and audiences to engage in Fringe shows, and gives attendees a little Fringe of their own to remind them of the festival, long after it is over.

SDIFF is one of over 200 unique Fringe Festivals produced worldwide. Stay tuned for more exciting news from SDIFF and make sure you mark your calendars for SD Fringe dates: June 22- July 2, 2017.
