The Pasaje Rodríguez was built over the site of a famous casino where Hollywood royalty thru the 30’s came to play, and now is a popular destination for local and international theatre, music, dance, and art, where artisan crafts, food, craft beer, and coffee shops line the walkway. Just two blocks north of Caesar Restaurant, home of the famous Caesar Salad, it is a unique open arcade running the middle of the block where our two Bi-National performance venues are located, La Caja Fuerte and Estación Teatro
LA CAJA FUERTE originally named “Foreign Club,” after the famous prohibition hangout in Tijuana, it was home for over ten years to Songwriters Hall of Famer Willy Clausen, who posted at the door, “Amigos del Arte. Willy’s. Come in!” After his passing, continuing to honor Clausen and his legacy, it is now named for the bank safe left from the casino days that was too heavy to move, La Caja Fuerte, and is a transformable, accessible, community open space in El Pasaje, booked for raves, parties, poetry readings to mini-concerts, dance groups, exhibits, conferences, and the BiNATIONAL FRINGE!
Estación Teatro is an independent cultural space created by local Tijuana artists that focuses on the performing arts and cinema with a coffee shop next door run by the artist collective. It is a theatre that creates a unique full stage experience for performer and audience alike because of the intimate proximity of both in the small space, like a tiny jewel that shines brightly when the lights go up. Estación Teatro has a long history of contributing to the arts and artists in Tijuana and now, the BiNATIONAL FRINGE!
