Artist General FAQs
Show Running Times:
- 45-60 minutes
- The maximum running time in Fringe-managed venues is 60 minutes.
- Lights will go down at 60 minutes.
Technical Requirements & Details:
Fringe-sponsored venues provide audio playback and limited lighting. Storage of sets and props is limited. You have 10 minutes for set up and 10 minutes to strike.
- Each group will receive one 2.5 hour tech rehearsal prior to their first performance in the Festival.
- All load in of scenery, spacing and cueing must be accomplished during this 2.5 hour period.
- Each Fringe-sponsored venue comes staffed with one technician tasked with executing sound and lighting cues for all performances. Please keep this in mind when considering how technically complicated you will make your show.
Show Submissions:
While San Diego International Fringe Festival does not censor material submitted, we do STRONGLY discourage the recycling of scripts that are (or have been) produced by regional and community theatres. This is your platform for "outside of the box" and "new works." We are particularly interested in post-fringe advancement.
Housing:
Artists are responsible for their own housing. HOWEVER, we will try to help people with BILLETING (host facilities & families) for artists that select this option.
BYOV/OFF Fringe - May 15 to May 25, 2025
BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) is a venue or location outside the regular Fringe-Sponsored Venues. CLICK HERE (for more information)
Participating in The San Diego International Fringe Festival as a BYOV is an incredibly unique opportunity to produce creative and innovative theatre. Companies may choose to participate in the festival as a BYOV if their work is site-specific, or if they were not accepted through the "First-Come First Served / Lottery" process but are still interested in mounting a production as part of the festival.
BYOV - Who is selected?
Participants (productions/shows) will be selected on a non-juried, non-censored basis (meaning creative works are not reviewed prior to submission and acceptance into the festival). If you are planning a BYOV production and need help, please feel free to EMAIL the Fringe to discuss your idea(s) at info@sdfringe.org.
