MEET BARBARA VELASCO – Organizer of BAJA FRINGE!

With a foundation in dance, she has built a global career as a performer, working with companies across multiple countries and appearing in large-scale productions such as Jubilee in Las Vegas.
She holds a BA in Dance (First Honor Roll) from Northumbria University (UK) and further trained at the SCAENA Performing Arts Conservatory in Spain. She has contributed to arts education as a faculty member at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), supporting the development of emerging artists.
Velasco’s curatorial vision is driven by a commitment to artistic diversity, innovation, and international dialogue, positioning Baja Fringe as a dynamic meeting point for contemporary performance.
The Gertrude Pearlman Theatre, located in the Punta Banda area of Ensenada, Baja California, is a storied cultural landmark known as the oldest English-speaking theater group in Baja. Established at the La Jolla Beach Camp, the venue is a 99-seat theater that serves as a vital hub for both local and expatriate communities. It is famously reached by traveling up a dusty dirt road, leading many to refer to it as “The Miracle” for its enduring presence in such a remote coastal location.
Why It Matters
The Bi-National Baja Fringe Program isn’t just about performance—it’s about exchange: artistic, cultural, and human. We break down borders and build bridges through live storytelling, shared experiences, and the belief that creativity thrives when communities come together.
