San Diego Fringe Jumps the Border With Baja Stage Invasion – Hoodline
The San Diego International Fringe Festival is back for its 14th year, starting May 12, and this time it is not stopping at the border. Running through May 24, the two-week sprint of theater, dance and experimental performance will blanket neighborhood venues across the city while piloting a new Baja Fringe residency in Ensenada and Rosarito.
Organizers say this edition will pack roughly 60 productions and about 100 artists into more than a dozen venues, from Balboa Park to Barrio Logan. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the festival is also pulling San Diego State University’s theatre district into the mix this year, adding campus stages to the traditional Fringe circuit.

Baja Fringe Pilot Brings Shows To Ensenada And Rosarito
For the first time, select San Diego Fringe shows will head south as part of a Baja Fringe pilot centered on Ensenada’s Gertrude Pearlman Theatre and Rosarito’s CEART complex. BroadwayWorld reports that the Ensenada residency is being coordinated locally by Bárbara Velasco, while local coverage notes that Rosarito events will plug into Artwalk Rosarito’s weekend programming. Gringo Gazette North reported that organizers expect delegations from several countries to attend the Rosarito presentations during the festival.
World Fringe Congress And Campus Stages
The World Fringe Congress is set to land in the binational region during the festival’s final stretch, May 19 to 24, bringing international festival directors, presenters and artists into the local mix. In a festival update on its official LinkedIn page, organizers list the run as May 12 to 24 and highlight new SDSU venues and a planned Mexicali presence alongside the Ensenada and Rosarito sites. LinkedIn also reiterates a core Fringe principle that artists keep their full box office, a key selling point for both touring companies and local makers.
Tickets, Preview Night And Family Programming
Individual show tickets are being advertised in the $10 to $15 range, with a one-time Fringe Tag offering basic access for about $7, organizers say. The San Diego Union-Tribune and local previews note a preview night is on the books for 7 PM on May 12, at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre, and daytime Family Fringe programming is planned for neighborhood parks and community centers. For schedules and tickets, organizers are directing audiences to the festival’s official pages and box office listings.
